Understanding Derby Matches
A derby is a structured cockfighting event where multiple participants enter their game fowls into a competition. Matches are organized according to weight and official derby rules.
Each participant competes for points during the event. Wins, draws, and losses determine overall rankings in the derby.
On Reddybook, derby matches create continuous excitement because multiple fights happen throughout the event.
Important Cock Fight Terms Explained
To understand the game better, users should know some commonly used derby terms.
A “cock” refers to a mature rooster trained for competition. A “stag” is a younger rooster, while a “bullstag” is between the stag and mature cock stage.
The “pit” is the fighting arena where the match takes place. The referee controls the fight and gives the final decision based on derby rules.
The “handler” releases the bird during the match, while the “heeler” is responsible for attaching the fighting blade or tari.
Understanding these terms makes the overall game easier to follow.
Weight Rules in Derby Matches
Weight is one of the most important factors in derby matching. Matches are arranged according to official weight limits to ensure fairness.
Different derby categories have different weight ranges:
- Stag derby
- Bullstag derby
- Cock derby
Matching similar weights helps maintain balance between competing entries.
On Reddybook, users often pay attention to weight details because they influence fight dynamics significantly.
How Matching Works
Before the derby begins, weights are submitted and recorded. The matching process then pairs birds with similar or close weights.
Modern derby systems use computerized matching to create fair contests. This process avoids major weight differences and maintains competitive balance.
The goal of matching is to ensure both sides enter the fight under equal conditions.
Fight Flow and Match Timing
Cock fight matches follow strict timing and procedural rules. Each fight has a maximum duration, and referees closely monitor the action.
If both birds stop engaging during the match, the referee performs a process called “carreo” or confrontation to determine whether the fight should continue.
This system keeps matches organized and prevents unnecessary delays.
Referee’s Role in the Match
The referee has full authority during the fight. From the moment the birds are released until the final decision, the referee controls the arena and ensures derby rules are followed properly.
The referee is responsible for:
- Managing fight flow
- Conducting confrontations
- Declaring winners
This role is extremely important in maintaining fairness during matches.
How Winners Are Decided
A winner is declared based on official derby conditions. The decision depends on whether one bird continues attacking while the opponent fails to respond during the confrontation procedure.
The referee carefully observes:
- Hits and pecks
- Reaction from opponents
- Overall fight condition
These observations determine the final result.

On Reddybook, understanding the rules improves the viewing and gameplay experience.
Common Derby Conditions Explained
Certain conditions may affect a match before or during the fight.
“Bad weight” happens when a bird exceeds allowed weight limits. “Bad shape” refers to physical conditions that may affect natural fighting ability.
If such situations occur, penalties or substitutions may apply according to derby regulations.
These rules help maintain competitive fairness.
